On the Far Side of Poplar Pond was a quick story that I wrote in the Fall of 2005 a few months after we brought home our 2nd daughter. I was overwhelmed with joy at the family God was creating and knew that I wanted to honor my daughter for being exactly who she was. She was a part of our family – not because we looked the same but because God knows what He is doing when He put families together. Seven years later, I felt God prompting me that “this was time to get the book published”. Perhaps equally as important as the story are the illustrations. I prayed that God would bring someone who had a heart for adoption and the ability to put passionate emotion in their illustrations – oh and they had to be willing to do the illustrations for very little money. It seemed like an impossible task! But God is good. A wonderful family Paul and Kate Miller, who we knew from church, also had a heart for adoption and their combined creativity brought more to this project than I could have ever asked for!! Paul Miller did an amazing job with the illustrations. I learned more about these characters that I had created after seeing his illustrations!
